It all comes into focus

We looked at the fire and saw another lioness, eating a zebra. The fire kept coming within a couple of feet of her. She would then grab the zebra, drag it a few feet away and start eating again. We saw this happen four or five different times.

Looking around, we saw six or seven other lions hiding in the grass. Then, we saw three cubs walking around the lionesses. The lionesses were alternately growling at each other, the cubs and the fire. It was very noisy with the crackling of the fire and the chatting of the lions.

I couldn't get any pictures of the cubs, but their faces looked like teddy bears poking up through the grass.

I'm sad that the photograph cannot do justice to all of the drama that was going on this particular evening.
