Our Guide and Drivers
These were the men to whom we were entrusting our lives. It was a smart move. All three of them were native Tanzanians and had been working with Thomson for a long time. They all showed tremendous patience with the pushy (and often clueless) Americans. It was their knowledge of the flora and the fauna which made all of the difference when we were out on the trail.
Charles was our lead guide. He had been a park ranger in the Serengeti before doing this job. His passion is birding, which led to some spectacular sightings out on the game drives. Typically, he would ride with Harrison in one vehicle while Leonard drove the other one.
As soon as we cleared customs, Charles led us to our trusty steeds, the Land Rovers.
